The Catholic parish church of St. Johannes Baptist is a monument in Großhausen near Kühbach .

history

The church is mentioned for the first time in 888: King Arnulf gave it to his vassal Gubo that year. After the church was destroyed in the War of the Spanish Succession , the church was rebuilt in 1732. It was furnished by Friedberg painters. The frescoes are by Johann Reismiller and represent Maria in the choir . The other paintings show scenes from the life of John the Baptist and St. Franz Xaver . In 1730 Pastor Thomas Triebenbacher established a brotherhood of St. Franz Xaver founded. From March 4th to March 12th, the brotherhood festival was celebrated with a nine-day prayer . In the 17th and 18th centuries, believers from Hollenbach also came to the church to celebrate the name of the saint on December 3rd . In the course of the secularization, the pilgrimage to Großhausen ended.

Building description

St. Johannes Baptist is a pilaster- structured hall with a flat needle cap barrel and a retracted choir under a flat dome. The onion dome is on the north side.

Furnishing

The high altar is marked “ALTARE PRIVIL. St Fr XAV CONFRATERNITATIS QUA-QUE FERIA SEXTA “(Altar of the Brotherhood of St. Francis Xavier, who is privileged every Friday). In the excerpt John depicted the Baptist. The large altarpiece , signed “P (ixet). Reis painter von Friedberg ”shows St. Franz Xaver as intercessor before Mary and the baby Jesus. The pastor and the faithful are shown below. A votive picture from 1767 is attributed to the Rococo painter Ignaz Baur, who was born in Großhausen.
