Freddie Bryant

Freddie Bryant (* around 1970 ) is an American modern jazz musician ( guitar , composition ) and a university teacher.

Live and act

Bryant attended Amherst College , where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1987; He then studied at the Yale School of Music, where he obtained a master's degree in classical guitar playing. Since the early 1990s he worked in the American jazz scene; first recordings were made in 1991 with the Bill Lowe / Andy Jaffe Big Band ( An Imperfect Storm ). In the following years he played in New York with musicians such as Kevin Hays , Tom Harrell , DD Jackson , Steve Wilson , Brad Mehldau , Chris Potter , Avishai Cohen , Roseanna Vitro , Dee Dee Bridgewater , Sheila Jordan , Randy Brecker , Tessa Souter , David Sánchez , Joshua Redman , Wynton Marsalis , Max Roach and Dr. Lonnie Smith , also with world musicians such as Salif Keïta and Giora Feidman . In his own projects he also dealt with Brazilian music; He presented a number of albums under his own name. Bryant is currently (2018) working with Ben Riley's Monk Legacy Septet (“Memories of T” on Concord Records ), also in the Ben Riley Quartet, in the Mingus Big Band and his own formation Kaleidoscope . In the field of jazz he was involved in 40 recording sessions between 1991 and 2016.

Bryant was a Copeland Fellow in Amherst in 2004, teaching African Studies and Music as a professor at Williams College. He currently teaches at Berklee College of Music and at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen.
