St. John the Baptist (Schalkenbach)
The Catholic Chapel of St. John the Baptist in Schalkenbach , a local community in the Ahrweiler district ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), was built in 1748. It is located opposite Schulstrasse 1 and is a protected cultural monument .
Building
An older chapel in the same place was replaced by the new building of this chapel in 1748. It is a plastered quarry stone building with two axes and a three-sided end. The 10.80 m long and 5.20 m wide chapel has a square roof turret with an eight-sided helmet above the choir . The year 1748 is affixed to the arched west portal . The windows were renewed in 1892 and today have leaded glass windows . The choir, with a small south door, is partitioned off by recessed pillars .
Furnishing
The baroque altarpiece from the 2nd half of the 17th century comes from the church of the Kalvarienberg monastery in Ahrweiler .
