St. Johannis

The Evangelical Lutheran listed church St. Johannis is in Seelingstädt , a municipality in the Greiz district of Thuringia . Due to its earlier affiliation to Saxony , the parish of Seelingstädt belongs to the parish of Zwickau of the Saxon regional church .

The hall church was built in its current appearance in 1898. It has a recessed, square choir and a sacristy . To the west, a new nave was added to the eastern former choir tower , which was taken over from the previous medieval building. After completion of the construction, the old nave was removed. The lower floors of the tower have been changed significantly. He received buttresses at the corners . The third, octagonal and slate-clad floor made of half-timbered construction was built in 1830. It has a hood crowned by a tower ball .

The interior was raised up into the roof structure by a saddle-like ceiling . The choir is spanned with a ribbed vault. The church furnishings from the time it was built have been completely preserved . The altarpiece carries a painting of Jesus' Last Supper . A stained glass of an eastern window shows the resurrection of Jesus Christ .
