The listed Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Johannis is located in Urbach , a municipality in the Nordhausen district of Thuringia . The parish Urbach is part of the parish area Urbach in Kirchenkreis Südharz the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The hall church , built from quarry stones in 1851, is only partially plastered. It has a retracted church tower in the east, which has an eight - sided slate - roofed tower, behind whose sound arcades is the old belfry . On it sits a bulbous hood , which is crowned by an open lantern with a tower ball . The first floor of the tower is from the previous building. It serves as a vestibule and has a barrel vault . The nave has three-sided galleries . There are wooden flat ceilings above them , and the area between them is covered with a barrel vault. The organ with 18 registers , divided into 2 manuals and a pedal , was built by Friedrich Christian Knauf in 1841 and restored by Rudolf Böhm in 1961 .
