Urbach is a municipality in the Thuringian district of Nordhausen with around 900 inhabitants. The city of Heringen / Helme is the fulfilling municipality for Urbach .
location
Urbach is located east of Nordhausen and on the northern edge of the Golden Aue and across from the Kelbra Dam Nature Park . The Nordhausen - Halle railway line , the 38 federal motorway and the 80 federal road run between Urbach and the dam . In terms of traffic, the place is connected to the national roads 2076 and 3080.
history
The first written mention of the place took place on June 23, 1169.
The current church of St. Johannis dates from the 19th century.
In what is now the “Kalkhütte” forest hotel, three companies, VEB Nortak Hanewacker Nordhausen , VEB Braunkohlenwerk Müelte and VEB Mineralölwerk Lützkendorf, built a children's holiday camp , continued it and turned it into a holiday home.
Tiemerode near Urbach fell in disaster in 1412. The church there was fortified with a wall and moat. Remnants of the church can still be seen. The moat becomes clear in the so-called pastor's walk.

Personalities
- Georg Gotthilf Evers (1837–1916), Lutheran theologian, convert to Catholicism, book author and botanist, officiated here from 1873 to 1880 as Lutheran pastor
