The village church St. Josef is a church in Massenricht , a district of the city of Hirschau in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach in the Upper Palatinate ( Bavaria ). The church was built between 1926 and 1928 and a sacristy was added in 1947 .
history
As early as 1921, the mass judges had collected 12,000 marks for the construction of a new chapel, which, however, had become worthless as a result of the inflation in 1923. In a second attempt, the current village church was built between 1926 and 1928. On Easter Monday, April 9, 1928, at 10:00 a.m., the village church was consecrated to St. Joseph by Expositus Johann Baptist Lanzl from Ehenfeld .
In 1948 a small sacristy was built.
In a letter dated April 13, 1950, the Ordinariate approved the keeping of the Holy of Holies in the Church. Once again - as with the approval for the consecration of the bells in 1935 - the weekly celebration was emphasized. For this reason, an armored tabernacle was installed in the altar of the village church in the summer of 1950 under Parish Curate Heribert Kleinhempl .
In 1966 the interior was renovated and the plastered figure of Joseph was replaced by a new altarpiece.
With the incorporation of the community of Massenricht into Hirschau on May 1, 1978, the village church also passed from the property of the community of Massenricht to the property of the city of Hirschau. As a result, the maintenance obligation of the church was transferred to the area of responsibility of the city of Hirschau from that date.
In 1982 a complete interior and exterior renovation took place.
On June 13, 1983, the Indian bishop George Punnakottil visited the village church in Massenricht and celebrated a holy mass together with the pastor from Ehenfeld at the time, Josef Kannathukuzhy - also Indian.
For the 75th anniversary in 2003, the church, along with the outdoor facilities and stairs, was renovated again.
Furnishing
altar
The church has an acanthus altar in the historicism style . The altar was created by the sculptor Johannes Wolfgang Rösch from Weiden in 1926. It cost 700 Reichsmarks . Until the renovation in 1966 there was a statue of Joseph inside the acanthus ornaments. As part of the renovation work, the statue was replaced by a picture of Joseph.
Bells
From 1926 to 1935 the village church only had one small bell, namely the bell from the previous chapel of the village church from 1766. In 1935, two bells were purchased from the Johann Hahn bell foundry from Landshut . The bell, which became superfluous as a result, was sold to the Bogner family from Rödlas in 1951 for 100 DM and installed in the chapel in Rödlas, where it is still in service today. In order to protect the bell from being forcibly delivered during the Second World War , it was hidden on a hay barn during the World War. On June 16, 1935, Expositus Plötz von Ehenfeld applied for permission to consecrate the two new bells. These two bells were the still existing 50 kg small bell, which is consecrated to St. Joseph and bears the image of St. Joseph with the inscription "St. Joseph please for us". The larger bell, weighing 75 kg, was dedicated to Our Lady and carried the inscription "Holy Mary pray for us". The larger bell had to be delivered for war purposes in 1942. On August 9, 1951, a new bell was consecrated, it bears the inscription "Soli Deo Gloria".
During the renovation in 1966, an automatic bell was installed, which is still in operation today. The costs for this amounted to 2,388 DM and were paid for by the municipality of Massenricht.
Sacred Heart statue
There is a Sacred Heart statue on the left side wall of the church.
Joseph statue
On the right side wall of the church there is a statue of Joseph on a pedestal. This statue was on the altar until its renovation in 1966.
Way of the Cross
The Way of the Cross could also be inaugurated on May 21, 1928 by Expositus Lanzl. The stations of the cross were all donated. A station of the cross cost 17 Reichsmarks . The pictures of the Stations of the Cross are copies. The originals were hanging in the Mosacher Church in Munich, but were destroyed during the Second World War. The originals were painted by Prof. Gebhard Fugel .
Statues of Our Lady
There are two statues of Our Lady in the church. The larger of the two statues is on the right side altar. It dates from 1937. In the 1970s, the statue was painted over on behalf of the sacristan at the time, Sebastian Schärtl. In 1990 the statue was renovated by the Amberg painter Görgner.
The other statue of Our Lady is now in the back of the church. It probably comes from the old chapel.
Monument protection
The village church is in the Bavarian Monument List of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation under file no. D-3-71-127-57 led.
