history

The church was built from 1934 to 1936 according to plans by the architect Josef Monz.

The local construction companies Metzinger and Becker as well as numerous volunteers were responsible for carrying out the construction work. The foundation stone was laid on November 4, 1934, the solemn consecration on February 16, 1936.

The demolition of a railway bridge by German pioneers at the beginning of the Second World War caused considerable damage to the church, which, due to the two evacuations of the village population in 1939 and 1944, could only be repaired after the war.

As a result of the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council , the interior of the church was rebuilt and redesigned in the 1960s.

On June 29, 1985 the church and the altar were consecrated by Trier Auxiliary Bishop Alfred Kleinermeilert as part of a pontifical ministry .

In 2002 the church and rectory were extensively renovated .

In the main altar there is a sculpture of St. Martin from the previous church.

The current windows in the main nave of the church were installed in the 1950s. The smaller windows in the side aisles function with their pictorial representations as stations of the cross .
