history

In the 16th century, the population in the Goslar area became Evangelical-Lutheran through the introduction of the Reformation . The first church in Oker, founded in 1527, the Martin Luther Church , built from 1823 , was Protestant-Lutheran.

After a result of the Second World War, the number of Catholics in the area around Goslar by the influx of refugees and displaced persons had increased greatly formed in Oker a Catholic parish. Before that, Oker belonged to the parish of St. Jakobus the Elder in Goslar. In April 1947 Pastor Georg Friebös took up his work in the newly established Vicarie Oker. He came from Pilsnitz (district of Wroclaw ), where he was already active as a pastor at a church with the patronage of St. Konrad von Parzham . Initially, the Catholic services in Oker took place in the Evangelical Martin Luther Church.

On June 3, 1951, the foundation stone was laid for the St. Konrad Church, and on March 23, 1952, Bishop Joseph Godehard Machens gave her consecration . On October 1, 1957, the Vicarie Oker was elevated to a parish, and on October 1, 1970 to a parish.

Since July 1, 2007, the church has belonged to the then newly established deanery Goslar – Salzgitter, previously it belonged to the deanery Goslar. On April 30th, 2009, the Friends of St. Konrad Oker was founded to secure the preservation of the church. The church was renovated inside in 2013 and outside in 2014, carried out by community volunteers.
