General and history

The historic Bad Dürrenberg emerged from several villages, of which only Keuschberg had its own church. A first chapel, possibly from 933, was replaced by a Romanesque church in 1223. During the Prussian period, Dürrenberg grew in importance. For a new church , the previous building was torn down in 1824, which led to controversy as the church was allegedly a burial place of participants in the Battle of Riyadh . However, no traces of a grave were found during the demolition. The newly built church was consecrated to St. Lawrence on August 29, 1830 , the tower was completed in 1832.

The church is a long, classical hall building with a tower in a round arch style . In relation to the rest of the church, the tower looks a bit short. According to Dehio (Saxony-Anhalt II), not all the planned floors of the tower were built. The design of the building, which is stylistically based on Schinkel buildings, comes from the Merseburg building inspector CF Schmidt with the collaboration of the mountain council FE Senff and the building inspector JCH Oestreich from Dürrenberg ;; Johann Albert Eytelwein and Karl Friedrich Schinkel contributed corrections.

The equipment includes a late Gothic Christ corps (on the newly designed altar cross), which still comes from the old church, as well as the sandstone baptismal font and the organ by Johann Gottfried Krug from 1810, which was rebuilt and repaired several times. The aluminum pulpit from 1933 is the work of Karl Müller from Halle. The three bells from 1925 come from the bell foundry in Apolda .

The church is in Bad Dürrenberg in the street Kirchplatz .
