Parish Church of St. Laurentius in Falkenberg

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius in Falkenberg in the Lower Bavarian district of Rottal-Inn is a neo-Gothic building from 1857 including older parts, in particular the late Gothic altar house . The church is registered as a monument with the number D-2-77-119-1 at the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .

history

The medieval tower substructure of the church probably dates from the 13th century, i.e. from the Romanesque period. The late Gothic choir, on the other hand, was built in the late Gothic style in the 15th century. The remaining parts of the building were built in 1857 in a neo-Gothic style. The late Gothic church was built on a former castle chapel , with the present presbytery being part of this little church. Under this presbytery there is a crypt in which some of the Tattenbach knights were buried in metal coffins.

In the 1960s the church was renovated, with many wall paintings and the two side altars being lost. This is how the interior of the church, which is today rather sparse, was created. In the years 1995 to 1997 the church was renovated again, with the roof truss and the tower in the foreground; Furthermore, new ceiling paintings were made and the former side altars and the pulpit restored and rebuilt. After the church renovation, a new organ was commissioned in 1999 , which was inaugurated on September 16, 2001.

Surroundings

graveyard

The old village cemetery is located around the parish church . It is surrounded by a late medieval wall, which was renewed during the neo-Gothic church building in 1857. The neo-Gothic cemetery chapel may have been built around the same time. The building with a turret and stepped gable also contains a Lourdes grotto , which was set up in the 19th century.

Rectory

The old rectory of Falkenberg was built in 1841 and 1842; the outbuildings were even older. The year 1616 was branded on a granary above the gate, which is a sign that the rectory survived the Thirty Years' War unscathed. Due to damage to the rectory in World War II and storm damage to the outbuildings, the rectory was no longer habitable for a long time and has since been demolished. In 1994 a new rectory was built at Gangkofener Straße 2.
