St. Lorenz is a village in the municipality of Rossatz-Arnsdorf in Lower Austria.
description
The small town is located opposite Weißenkirchen in the Wachau , with which it is connected by a roller ferry . The branch church of St. Lorenz stands at a narrow point between the rock fall and the Danube . It was built - probably in the 12th century - on the south side of a watchtower of the Danube Limes from the 4th century; the stone spire of the tower can be dated to the year 1286 based on the formwork construction. The church, which was built as a place of worship for boatmen, is one of the smallest churches in the Wachau. Next to the ferry station, the Wachau nose , an approx. Four meter high sculpture, was erected in 2014 by the artist group Gelitin. To the south-east of the village, above federal road 33, lies the Kalvarienberg , built in 1689 and restored in 1989, as the end of a way of the cross that leads from Rossatz with seven broad pillars .
