The Church of St. Lukas is the Roman Catholic parish church of the local community Fleringen in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm ( Rhineland-Palatinate ).

history

The Fleringer Church was first mentioned in a document in 1330. The bell tower and rectangular choir are the oldest part and date from the second half of the 15th century or the first half of the 16th century. They were built in the late Gothic style . In a visitation report from 1570, the state of the church building is called ruinous and a new nave is called for. But it was not until 1683 that a new three-bay nave was built while retaining the tower and choir. The sacristy was added in the 17th or 18th century.

Furnishing

Among the furnishings, the baroque high altar from 1663 by master Johann Molitor from Prüm should be mentioned. Above the tabernacle there is a wooden figure of St. Luke and above in a small niche St. Catherine. The side parts of the altar bear a Pietà on the right above the doors to the sacristy and Mother Anna with Mary and the child on the left. To the right of the triumphal arch, which closes off the choir, the figure of the Virgin and Child, an old Rhenish work, stands out against a light background. The late Gothic star vault in the choir is also worth seeing .

The interior of the church was renovated in 1973/74. Partly damaged wooden parts such as the pulpit , confessional , side altar and wooden paneling were removed. In the choir room one discovered old ceiling paintings, which were professionally restored. They represent Christ as the judge of the world, surrounded by four evangelists. The Prüm Heimatmuseum is showing an old Fleringer chasuble, a valuable silk embroidery called "Cologne border", which probably dates from 1421 as a loan.

Bell jar

A book from 1922 shows that Fleringen is home to one of the oldest bells in the region. It is the middle bell, which bears an unrecognizable coat of arms around 1400 and the inscription "Newly restored 1956". So it can be assumed that it is still this old bell.
