The church

The Protestant village church of St. Margareten is in the municipality of Eschenbergen in the Gotha district in Thuringia .

history

About the previous church, the St. Nicholas Chapel , disputes between the farmers and the former Georgenthal monastery are reported in 1263 . So the farmers saw a parochial church in St. Nikolai , while the monastery was a chapel. There were further differences between the archbishop in Mainz and the Georgenthal monastery.

The construction of the Lutheran Church of Eschenberga , called Margaret Church , began in 1584. The date 1584 is attached to a relief stone on the church. The four corners of the church stand on millstones . The entablature was poorly planned and processed by a master builder from Arnstadt , so that it collapsed after construction was completed and eight carpenters injured, one of whom died. A carpentry from Ballstädt then took on the job more successfully .

For the equipment of the church

For the Church in 1575 was a large bell in the A-Ton cast, weighing 24 quintals. The second bell, weighing 12 quintals, comes from the probably demolished Nikolai chapel.

In 1618 the organ was installed. In 1728 the bells were exchanged to match the tones for E, A and H. This may not have succeeded, because in 1841 a new church tower was built and the carillon was tested on October 6, 1841.

Two bells were melted down in the First World War and 85 kg of tin from the prospect pipes.

In 1920 new bells were received to make amends, but the sound of the bell from the Nikolai Chapel did not harmonize with the tones of the new bells. so that the Nikolai bell was sold despite strong opposition.

In 1924 a church clock was bought.
