The Protestant church of St. Marien in Kempfenbrunn , a district of Flörsbachtal in the Hessian Main-Kinzig district , is a Romanesque choir tower church from the first half of the 13th century. In the late Gothic modified tower was raised in 1728 and with a lantern dome provided. In 1977/78 Gothic wall paintings were uncovered in the choir . When extensive restoration work was carried out between 2001 and 2004, further wall paintings were discovered in the tower.

Today's hall was built in 1726/28 when the nave of the church was almost doubled and the entrance was moved to the middle of the north wall. On the side of the portal, large arched windows and an oculus were broken over the portal . At that time galleries were built on two sides .

Murals

The scenes are arranged in two rows. In the upper fields, Christ is depicted as the judge of the world, surrounded by the apostles holding banners in their hands. Fragments of the Passion of Christ are preserved in the lower row.

Furnishing

Madonna figure
  • The wooden sculpture of a Madonna and Child in a niche in the tower is dated to the early 16th century.
  • On the eastern wall of the nave there is a wooden sculpture of St. Barbara .
  • Anna Selbdritt and the apostle James are depicted on a relief with a gold background .
  • The pulpit of sandstone from the 16th century and is connected to the arms of the counts of Hanau provided.
  • The parapets of the galleries are painted with depictions of the apostles. They date from the 18th century.
