The Catholic parish church of St. Martin is located in Unteregg in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The church is a listed building.

history

The late Gothic church dates from the second half of the 15th century. Behind the high altar is the year 1477 in an inscription. The inscription names the Magdalenentag, July 22nd, as the day on which the building was made , which probably means that the church inside was plastered on that day. In the years 1720/1730 the church was changed. The baroque altars were replaced by new altars during the renovation from 1855 to 1858. In a later restoration between 1903 and 1905, attempts were made to restore the baroque interior. Another renovation took place in 1950. During the last renovation, the stuccoed flat ceiling was removed and replaced with a barrel ceiling so that a second gallery could be built.

Building description

The church of St. Martin was built as an unplastered building made of tuff stone blocks . The square church tower is located in the choir corner on the north side. In 1990 the steeple's spire was renewed. The church has a retracted choir, closed on three sides , which adjoins the single nave nave . The nave is structured with pilasters and has a needle cap barrel from 1950.

Furnishing

The altars of the church date from around 1720. They were previously in the Anna chapel in Baisweil, which was demolished in 1901 . The high altarpiece, the coat donation of St. Martin represents. Flanked is the high altarpiece of statues of St. Joseph and St. Ulrich . The figure of St. Joseph from the third quarter of the 18th century was originally in the Martinskirche in Kaufbeuren .

The right side altar shows the figure of Salvator mundi . Above in the excerpt is a depiction of Veronica's handkerchief . In the left side altar is the figure of the Immaculate . Both figures on the side altars belong to the cycle of apostles in the nave and choir.

The neo-baroque pulpit was created by A. Riemer around 1903/05 .

The stucco in the choir was probably created by Abraham Bader around 1730. The frescoes in the choir date from the same period and are attributed to Johannes Heel. In 1903/05 the frescoes were heavily renewed. The Holy Trinity and the Church Fathers are shown to the side. The pictures in the nave were created by Karl Manninger in 1950.
