St. Mauritius (Freialdenhoven)
St. Mauritius is a Roman Catholic parish church in Freialdenhoven , municipality of Aldenhoven in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The church is dedicated to St. Dedicated to Mauritius and was built in 1952.
history
A church in Freialdenhoven is mentioned for the first time in 1166. This first Romanesque church was replaced by a new Gothic church around 1486 . During the Second World War , this hall church was blown up by German troops in 1944. Around 1952 a new modern church was built on the same site.
Building description
St. Mauritius is a three-aisled hall church made of brick with a rectangular choir and a laterally retracted bell tower.
Furnishing
There is modern equipment in the church. Special mention should be made of the fresco in the choir, which shows the risen Christ. The window was created by the artist Johannes Beeck in 1953.
Bells
Two historical bells have survived from the old church, which was blown up in 1944. The oldest is the Marien and Mauritius bell from 1398 by the bell founder Heinrich von Gerresheim . The Salvator bell was cast by Gregorius van Trier in 1486. This bell is the largest of the pealers. The smallest bell dates from 1961 and is called the Joseph and Barbara bell. It was cast by the Monasterium company in Münster.
