history

Since the old churches of St. Annen and St. Michael were dilapidated and lacked capacity, the architect Clemens Wenzeslaus Coudray was commissioned in 1823 to draw up plans for the construction of a new church . The 500-year-old churches and the Red Castle were then torn down to extract building blocks.

The foundation stone was laid on July 4, 1824. The topping-out ceremony took place on November 5th , the steeple was erected on July 23, 1825 and the button was set on September 13th . The church was consecrated on September 14, 1826 by Superintendent Vogt from Klettbach . The organ was installed in 1826 . In 1833 the baptismal font with a pewter font was donated.

In 1886 a new organ was installed by the organ builder Eifert from Stadtilm. In 1895 the new bells were cast by the Franz Schilling company from Apolda and inaugurated in 1896.

In 1899 the interior of the church and the windows were renovated for 5,000 marks. In 1917 the bells were melted down for war purposes. In 1920 the old bell house was torn down. In the same year new bells were procured and hung in the newly built belfry. The alteration of the chancel and the installation of new lamps took place in 1963/64. The next interior renovation took place in 1984. The shingle roof was covered with slate in 1995 . In 1998 the sanctuary was painted.

The Eifert organ was restored from 2007 to 2012 by the company Rösel und Hercher from Saalfeld . In 2009 the two manuals were put back into operation .
