St. Nicholas (Leutra)
The St. Nikolaus Church is the Protestant church in Leutra , part of the Maua district of the city of Jena in Thuringia .
history
Like the choir , the walled fortified church is said to date from the 12th century. The tower with ashlar masonry and simple slits as a window became a four-storey defensive tower in the second half of the 13th century . Remnants of the wall testify to four semicircular corner towers that once existed. The nave has a single nave.
Nave
You enter the nave from the south through a narrow, low, defensive round arched door. There are crossbow , sword and a ball carved into the wall. The walls of the church have two windows each. 1716-1791 two-storey galleries on three sides and a pulpit altar were built. A wooden ceiling for the nave and choir was installed.
