description
Excavations by the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Erfurt have shown that there was a chapel built as a tower before 1200 . It was enlarged around 1200 by adding a small apse to accommodate the altar . It was replaced by a low rectangular choir in the 15th century . A coffered ceiling and the lower gallery were installed there in the 17th century . The coffered ceiling in the nave is much younger. The building has arched windows and is covered with a slate-covered gable roof from which a roof turret emergesraises. In this hang two cast steel bells, which were cast in Apolda in 1920 and 1962.
The interior , covered with a coffered ceiling, has two-storey galleries . There are remains of wall paintings on the west wall . The church furnishings include a small altar that bears the date 1701 and a baptismal angel from the 16th century holding a wreath in which the baptismal bowl is inserted. A relatively large pulpit from 1619 stands in the triumphal arch . A small crucifix from the 14th century has been preserved on the north side . There is no organ in the church, but a harmonium from O. Lindholm .
