St. Peter and Paul in Erkheim

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Peter and Paul is located in Erkheim in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The church is a listed building.

history

A church at this point was mentioned as early as 1167. The tuff stone substructure of the church tower probably dates from this time and is therefore the oldest structural part of the church. A new building was erected in 1433. In the years 1803 to 1807 a new roof structure and a new nave ceiling were built. A restoration of the church took place in 1954.

Building description

Church tower of St. Peter and Paul

The nave of the church is a flat-roofed hall with four window axes. Both inside and outside this is not structured. The retracted choir adjoins the nave with a 5/8 end. The choir consists of a yoke and has a star rib vault on pyramid consoles. The outer facade of the choir is decorated with simple buttresses with water hammer . The entrance to the church is ogival and is on the south side of the nave. Pointed arched portals lead into both the church tower and the sacristy . The tower is located on the south side of the church and has a gable roof covered. The undivided church tower contains coupled sound arcades on the upper floor .

The altar formerly in the church from around 1600 is now in the pilgrimage church in Mussenhausen . This altar was replaced by a modern version. The font dates from 1777. The font is made of gray marble. The bell-shaped basin rests on a four-sided bulbous pillar.

The pulpit dates from the same year as the font . The polygonal basket of the pulpit is on a pillar that was added later. The basket is divided by three-quarter columns. The pulpit door is framed by pilasters and beams. A figure of the risen Jesus Christ is on the sound cover .

The pastor's seat with acanthus carving dates from around 1700. There are two paintings in the church. The raising of Lazarus is from the beginning of the 17th century and is attributed to Gabriel Dreer . A pastor's portrait is marked F. Küchlin pinx. 1822 . The wooden crucifix was donated in 1698.

A sandstone epitaph for Johannes Lingg († 1474) is in the choir of the church. A flat relief figure is depicted on the epitaph . The inscription on another sandstone slab with a coat of arms relief from the 17th century has been partially destroyed. The memorial plaque for the fallen from 1805 to 1815 is made from Solnhofen limestone . The memorial plaque is marked with Reich STH .
