St. Peter and Paul (Oberderdingen)
The Protestant parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Oberderdingen (in the former village of Unterderdingen), a municipality in the Karlsruhe district in Baden-Württemberg , is a Gothic building from the 13th or 14th century that was redesigned in the Baroque style in the 18th century has been. In the choir are murals obtained from the late 14th century.
history
The construction of the church of Unterderdingen is dated to the 13th or 14th century due to similarities with the stone carving of the bell tower in the Amthof of Oberderdingen. The church with the patronage of the apostles Peter and Paul is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1601. In the 18th century the church tower had become dilapidated and had to be renovated. In 1769 the nave was enlarged and given a baroque design. In 1929, wall paintings from around 1380 were discovered in the choir.

Exterior construction
The Gothic choir tower is the oldest remaining part of the church. It is built from sandstone blocks. The narrow lancet window on the south wall dates from the time the tower was built, the larger window on the east wall was broken through around 1480.

The Church of St. Peter and Paul is a hall church with a flat wooden ceiling. The nave is surrounded on three sides by a wooden gallery . In the east there is a small choir covered with a ribbed vault . The vault ribs rest on leaf consoles . The keystone is decorated with a relief of a Lamb of God .
Murals
The wall paintings in the choir of St. Peter and Paul are among the few remaining Gothic wall paintings in Kraichgau , along with those of the parish church of Our Lady in Eppingen .
On the north wall, the Annunciation by the Archangel Gabriel, the Visitation of Mary and the birth of Christ are depicted. What is unusual about the scene of the encounter between Mary and Saint Elizabeth is the depiction of the baby Jesus in the womb. The south wall is dedicated to King Herod and the killing of the innocent children , the flight into Egypt and Mary, who is sitting at a distaff . The lower scenes depict the crucifixion of Christ and his entombment.
Saints can be seen in the reveal of the south window. In the upper center, a pelican feeding its young and a phoenix in the fire symbolize the sacrificial death of Jesus and his resurrection. The eastern window niche is divided into seven fields, in each of which two saints are united. The upper, middle field is reserved for the blessing Christ.
The ornamental paintings on the east wall with tendril and cube patterns were made around 1480 and replaced some of the formerly figurative representations.
Furnishing
The pulpit and the organ front date from the 18th century. The sound cover of the pulpit bears the inscription: Blessed are those who hear God's word and keep it. On the bottom is a dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit.
There are two stone epitaphs in front of the north wall of the choir . The left is dedicated to the son of the bailiff Sebastian Dreher, who died in 1579 and who built the Laurentius Church in Oberderdingen, who is shown kneeling next to a cross. The right one commemorates the bailiff's wife, who kneels with her children under a cross.
A grave slab with a relief of a chalice commemorates a clergyman who died in 1411.
