St. Peter and Paul (Bern)
The Church of St. Peter and Paul is a Christian Catholic church building at Rathausgasse 2 in Bern .
It was built from 1858 to 1864 as the first Catholic church in the city of Bern in the immediate vicinity of the Bern City Hall . The church is the result of international competition; the plans came from France (including by Pierre Joseph Edouard Deperthes, the architect of the town hall of Paris ) and the historicizing style imitates the formal language of the Romanesque and early Gothic .
The first service took place on November 13, 1864. In 1875 the church became a Christian Catholic in the course of the Kulturkampf . The ceiling paintings and colored windows date from the Art Nouveau period; the choir was redesigned in 1998. The ringing consists of three bells from the Rüetschi bell foundry with the chimes d 1 , f 1 and a 1 .
The Church of St. Peter and Paul is the parish church of the Christian Catholic parish of Bern and also serves as the cathedral church for the Christian Catholic bishop of Switzerland . For the names of the previous bishops see the list of Swiss Christian Catholic bishops .
organ
The organ was built in 1885 by the organ builder Friedrich Goll (Lucerne). In 1948 the instrument was rebuilt, and the disposition was also changed. In 2011 the instrument was refurbished and returned to its original condition. The cone chest instrument has 28 stops on two manuals and a pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
