St. Peter and Paul (Burglauer)
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul is the parish church of Burglauer in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld . It is one of the architectural monuments of Burglauer and is registered together with the Mariengrotte on the church tower , the stone high cross on the sacristy and the churchyard wall under the number D-6-73-186-5 in the Bavarian list of monuments .
history
The basement of the church tower dates back to 1508. They belong to a church that was built by the lord of the castle, Bernhard von Steinau. In 1602 the nave was built by Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn . In 1661, the steeple was raised in the style of Julius Echter with the typical pointed roof. In 1925 the nave was extended and a large gallery with an external staircase was built. The sacristy is a new building from 1958 to 1959. Interior renovations took place in the 1970s and 1999.

The church was furnished in the Baroque style in 1782 . The high altar is framed by figures of the church patrons Peter and Paul . The frescoes are works by the painter Johann Peter Herrlein . The ceiling painting depicts the transfer of the power of the keys to Peter. The church contains a small figure of Our Lady who is close to Tilman Riemenschneider . It also contains the tombs of the lord of the castle Bernhard von Steinau † 1508 and his three wives † 1486, 1494 and 1500. Further tombs of the von Steinau family can be found in the Euerbach church of St. Cosmas and Damian . The baptismal font was set in 1603. The organ is a work from 1680.
