The Catholic parish church of St. Petrus in Peterslahr , a local parish in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1900/01. The building at Kirchstrasse 13 is a protected architectural monument .

history

A church in Peterslahr was first mentioned in a document in 1326. The still preserved tower and two leaded glass windows , which are now in the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt , point to the second half of the 12th century when it was built. The old church consisted of a nave and a rectangular choir . Major alterations were made in the 18th century. After the church had become too small and was also in poor condition, it was decided to build a new one. The baptistery and the lower part of the tower are still preserved from the original church .

The new church was built in the neo-Romanesque style according to the plans of the architect Ludwig Hofmann (1862–1933) from Herborn . The church was built in 1900/01 with a large share of the population. It was consecrated on April 30, 1904 by Auxiliary Bishop Karl Ernst Schrod .

Stained glass window

The lead glass windows were created in 1901 by the Oidtmann glass painting company in Linnich.
