The Roman Catholic Church of St. Regiswindis (formerly St. Gumbertus ) in Vilchband , a district of Wittighausen in the Main-Tauber district , is a Baroque church built around 1753/54.

history

A Gumbertus church , which had to be demolished due to its dilapidation , previously stood on the site . The foundation stone of the new church was laid on June 26th, 1753 and on December 21st, 1754 the Holy of Holies was transferred to the church. The architect of the new church was Anton Brenner from Würzburg. In addition, the church tower was raised in 1907.

Today the church belongs to the pastoral care unit Grünsfeld-Wittighausen of the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

Church building and equipment

Altars

The church contains its original equipment with two side altars, which are decorated with rococo carvings and were made by the sculptor Johann Steuerwald in 1773. A high altar from 1756 is the work of the master Reiner Wirl , which was renewed and enlarged in 1778 by the sculptor Steuerwald from Kitzingen.

Gallery

The gallery installation dates from 1856.

Bell tower

The church has three bells from the Friedrich Wilhelm Schilling bell foundry , which are housed in a Douglas fir wooden bell chair built in 2002. The tower is equipped with clocks on three sides.

The church also contains a Louis Voit organ from 1896, which was restored from 2003 to 2004 by the Joachim Popp Orgelbau company.
