Vilchband is a district of the municipality Wittighausen in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Vilchband lies at an altitude of 290.3 m above sea level. NHN . The localization includes an area of ​​856 hectares. The village of Vilchband ( ) and the abandoned village of Erdburg belong to the former municipality of Vilchband .

history

Vilchband was first mentioned in a document in 837 by Ludwig the Pious. The place was first called "Filuhonbiunte". Over the years the names "Vilchbiunde" (1265), "Philigpant" (1452) and "Villichband" (1691) were named, whereupon the name Vilchband developed.

In the 8th century the place came to the bishop of Würzburg. At the beginning of the 14th century the village belonged to the St. Stephan monastery in Würzburg. In 1593 the place was finally assigned to the Grünsfeld regency.

After the dissolution of the Principality of Mainz, the place came to the Principality of Leiningen in 1803, to the Principality of Krautheim in 1804 and to the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1806. Just before the end of World War II, 40 percent of the village was destroyed by fire.

On December 31, 1972, Vilchband was incorporated into Wittinghausen.

Parish Church of St. Regiswindis

The baroque church of St. Regiswindis was built in 1753/54. Before that there was a Gumbertus church on the same site, which had to be demolished due to its dilapidation. The current church is a Regiswindis Gumbertus church. The foundation stone was laid on June 26, 1753, and the Holy of Holies was transferred to the new church on December 21, 1754. The high altar was set in 1757. The oldest building in Vilchband is today's parish and community center. It was built in 1674 and is one of the few buildings that survived the 1732 fires.

Chapels

On the edge of the central village square is the so-called old chapel from 1883 next to the former community scales. This is a simple plastered building. In 1997 a new chapel was built on the outskirts as part of the re-routing of the local road in the direction of Unterwittighausen .

Recreation

Lake in Vilchband

In Vilchband there is a lake with an adjacent recreational area. This is a former sewage treatment plant, which was converted into a natural pond system by citizens and helpers on the basis of a municipal council resolution from 2008. The lake was finally inaugurated in August 2011.
