history

On March 30, 1786, the contract was signed with master mason Melchior Stofflet from Höllrich for the new building of the Gauaschach church, led by Würzburg cathedral builder Johann Michael Fischer . After the shell had been built in 1786/1787, the interior was finished in 1788. The plastering work was carried out by Bossi Augustinus. In 1789 the construction work was completed.

The high altar with Saints Boniface and Kilian was made in 1792 by the Eußenheim carpenter Andreas Schmitt and the Karlstadt sculptor Jörg Schreiner from Karlstadt. The side altars were installed in 1851 and gilded in 1867.

The organ dates from 1738 and was acquired in 1803 by the now defunct Würzburg St. Mark's Monastery for the St. Sebastian Church. The pulpit , donated by Gauaschach's widow Anna Dorothea Reitz, was made in 1832 by the Karlstadt-based Schäfer brothers.

The first known records of furnishing the church with bells date from 1771. Four new bells were installed in 1898, confiscated during World War I and replaced with new ones in 1920. Three of the four bells were confiscated again in World War II , but were reinstalled in 1948.

The church was renovated in 1980/83, 1984/90 and 1990/91. On July 20, 1991, the Würzburg bishop Paul-Werner Scheele consecrated the people's altar and blessed the restored organ.
