Information board at St. Severin

The parish with the patronage of St. Severin of Cologne was founded in 1293 by the imperial abbey Kornelimünster and remained incorporated into it until the secularization in 1804 . In place of the old church, today's church was built in 1864 according to plans by Heinrich Wiethase and August Essenwein . The surrounding cemetery has been occupied since around 1870. The tower, built according to plans by the Haaren architect Heinrich van Kann , was not completed until 1908 .

Badly damaged by bombs on July 14, 1943, St. Severin was restored by 1953. A building renovation with redesign of the interior was carried out by the architect Kaldenbach from 1974 to 1980. In 1988 St. Severin was included in the list of monuments of the city of Aachen .

Since 2010 St. Severin has formed the new overall parish of St. Severin with three other former parishes.

The Severinskirche is built in the neo-Romanesque style based on models of the Rhenish Romanesque from roughly hewn stone . In addition to the main transept, the ridge height of which corresponds to that of the central nave, two lower transept arms are attached to the west. The elaborate west building is attached immediately . Above the portal flanked by two low side wings, the four-storey tower rises on a square floor plan , richly structured with corner turrets, round arched and rose windows , arched friezes and pilaster strips, and the upper floor is an octagon with a pyramid point.
