Architecture and history

Church building

It was built as a hall church from field stones in the late Romanesque period. On the east side is the retracted choir and an apse with a semicircular floor plan. The roof of the choir and nave are of the same width. On the southern long side of the nave there is an original priest's gate, on the northern side there is a walled-up gate designed as a round arch. To the west of the nave is the church tower of the same width. It is covered with a hipped gable roof .

In 1825 the church was restored. The original windows of the choir were temporarily walled up, but were restored in 1896. Otherwise, however, the window openings have all been changed and no longer preserved in their original form.

The interior of the church has a flat ceiling. There is a round triumphal arch. Originally there were two arched openings between the tower and the nave. At the end of the 17th century, a crypt with a cross vault was built in the northern part for the Brand von Lindau family .

The Romanesque plate of the altar is preserved. It was used again in the work of 1896 to redesign the altar. From an altarpiece created in 1617, a relief showing the Last Supper is now in the basement of the tower. The pulpit dates from 1693. It is made of wood in a polygonal shape and is covered by a sound cover with a tetragram on the underside . The lid is crowned by a structure reminiscent of a crown. The pulpit itself bears the coat of arms of the Brand von Lindau and von Rochow families . In addition, sayings are appropriate.

An octagonal baptism made of sandstone is dated as early as 1671 . It bears an inscription and coat of arms from Joachim Friedrich Brand von Lindau and his wife Dorothee von Rochow and presumably represents the reworking of a Romanesque font.

A baroque painting on the western gallery shows the crowning of thorns . There is also a baroque angel figure preserved only as a fragment. The late baroque organ prospectus with the organ by Carl Joseph Chwatal dates from 1843.

At the end of the 19th century, colored glass windows depicting the resurrection of Christ were installed on the east side of the church.

From 1936 to 1940 the theologian Johann Gerhard Schomerus was pastor at the church.

In the local register of monuments , the church is listed as an architectural monument under registration number 094 05697 .

Epitaphs

There are various epitaphs in the church . The epitaph for Joachim Friedrich Brand von Lindau, who died in 1677, is made of marble. It is provided with a sixteen-part ancestral specimen , auricle and an oval of inscription framed by laurel. The epitaph of Dorothea Brand von Lindau, born von Rochow, is also made of sandstone. It was created around 1680 and is decorated with an acanthus frame. The epitaph of Amalia Brandin von Lindau, who died in 1702, is located on the triumphal arch. It is also made of sandstone and shows allegorical representations and crossed palm fronds. In the nave there are further sandstone epitaphs, such as that of Daniel Friedrich Brand von Lindau, who died in 1669. It has an alliance coat of arms and cherub heads in its explosive gable . Another epitaph commemorates Dorothee Brand von Lindau, who died in 1682. It is adorned with a tree of life that shows heraldic representations. The epitaph for Johann Friedrich, who died in 1718, and Sophia Hedwig Brand von Lindau is a little younger, but their date of death was not entered. It is lavishly decorated and, in addition to a figure, also bears a snake, a globe, a book with a grieving putto and an inverted torch.
