Sankt-Trinitatis-Kirche in Gommern

Sankt Trinitatis is a Protestant church in the city of Gommern in Saxony-Anhalt .

history

A church in Gommern is mentioned for the first time in 1192. Judging by the remains of the old wall, it was probably a three-aisled basilica built from rubble stones in the Romanesque style. This first church building was destroyed in the Thirty Years War .

Reconstruction began in 1692 and took almost ten years. An elongated hall building with pointed arched windows was created, straight to the east . It was not until 1714 that the square west tower was added, which is equipped with an octagonal curved dome and a lantern . Extensive renovations took place from 1894 to 1897. Two pointed side turrets, a polygonal apse , a sacristy building in the south and neo-Gothic gable tops were added.

Changes have also been made inside. The ceiling of the nave was given a wooden barrel vault , the chancel was designed with ribbed vaults and a gallery was built in. The Quedlinburg art glasswork Ferdinand Müller made three colored glass windows in which Christ and the apostles Peter and Paul are depicted. The oldest item in the inventory is the elaborate carved wooden pulpit , which was created in 1713. Also from the Baroque period is a painting depicting King David with the Ark of the Covenant. The organ was installed in 1881 by the Nickol company from Dessau , but was rebuilt in 1912 by the organ builder Ernst Röver from Hausneindorf . A bronze bell, cast in 1595 by Heinrich Borstelmann from Magdeburg , is part of the bell.

To the south of the church is the listed parish hall at Am Kirchplatz 2 .
