description

The first church was built in 1166 by monks from Corvey Monastery . It was followed by a new building in the second half of the 13th century, the defense tower of which is intended to provide protection for the population. The church tower as well as the foundations and the plinth in the western part of the nave have been preserved. The foundations of the choir uncovered in 1954 are assigned to the first church. The ground floor of the tower is spanned with a groin vault. In 1703 the tower's helmet was blown down by a storm. The nave was destroyed.

In 1705 the baroque church was built and the tower got a new pyramid roof with a graceful roof turret . The choir adjoins the plastered nave with its four-sided end. It is built from rubble stones and provided with corner stones . In 1954 the sacristy was built .

The windows in the nave are arranged in two lines. The interior was modernized in 1955/1956. The baptismal font on a column with an ornamental flat relief dates from the end of the 16th century. The altar with the consecration cross has survived to this day. The wall behind him bears a mosaic showing Jesus Christ and the four evangelists . There are numerous tombstones from the end of the 16th and 17th centuries on the church tower . They were brought here from the former executioner's house.
