history

20th century

The location of the old church, built in 1869 on the old church square in Malschenberg, appeared to be increasingly problematic in the years after the Second World War due to inadequate building fabric and cramped space. The local pastors therefore began collecting collections for a new church. The plans took on concrete form in 1976 when, thanks to the commitment of clergyman Walter Etzkorn, sufficient funds were collected for the new building.

In 1979 the project was included in the church building program of the Archdiocese of Freiburg and the groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 1, 1979. As a result of the subsoil investigation, a foundation had to be built on 69 pillars, each of which was drilled to a depth of nine meters. In 1981 the foundation stone was blessed and the topping-out ceremony was celebrated. On Christkönig Sunday 1982 the parish was finally able to take possession of its new church St. Wolfgang, which was consecrated on June 5, 1983 by Bishop Wolfgang Kirchgässner . At that time he called on the congregation: "Let these new stones become living stones in your parish church."
