history

prehistory

Deanery Wiesloch

The Wiesloch dean's office was re-established in 1976. The parishes of the deanery belonged to the dioceses of Speyer or Worms until the Archdiocese of Freiburg was founded in 1827. Within these dioceses, the parishes again belonged to the deaneries Heidelberg, St. Leon and Waibstadt.

In the course of a fundamental reorganization, the Deanery St. Leon was abolished in 1929 and the Deanery Wiesloch was created from the parishes of the Deaneries Heidelberg, St. Leon and Waibstadt. At that time, the Wiesloch deanery comprised the following parishes: Baiertal, Balzfeld, Dielheim, Mühlhausen and Rotenberg (formerly Waibstadt deanery), Nußloch, Walldorf, Wiesloch (formerly Heidelberg deanery), Eichtersheim, Malsch, Malschenberg, Rauenberg, Rettigheim, Rot and St Leon (formerly Deanery St. Leon).

Deanery Schwetzingen

The Deanery Schwetzingen was founded in 1960. It comprised the following parishes: Edingen, Neckarhausen, Oftersheim, Plankstadt and Schwetzingen (formerly the deanery of Heidelberg), Hockenheim, Ketsch, Neulußheim, Reilingen (formerly the deanery of Philippsburg) and Brühl (formerly the deanery of Mannheim).

The deanery was dissolved again in 1976 and connected to the Wiesloch deanery (with the exception of the parishes of Edingen and Neckarhausen).

Deanship reforms

The parishes of the deanery belonged to the dioceses of Speyer or Worms until the Archdiocese of Freiburg was founded in 1827. Within these dioceses, the parishes again belonged to the deaneries Heidelberg, St. Leon and Waibstadt.

The current dean's office in Wiesloch was newly formed as part of the dean's office reform in 1976 from the previous dean's offices in Wiesloch and Schwetzingen. At that time it was the largest deanery in the Archdiocese of Freiburg.

For the reform of the deanery on January 1, 2008, the plan was to dissolve the Wiesloch deanery. Ultimately, the deanery remained completely unaffected in 2008 and is now one of 26 deaneries in the Archdiocese of Freiburg.

The Wiesloch dean's office together with the Mannheim , Heidelberg-Weinheim and Kraichgau dean's offices form the Rhine-Neckar region .
