With the reform of the deanery on January 1, 2008, the Zollern deanery was established as one of 26 deaneries of the Archdiocese of Freiburg. The Deanery Zollern is based in Hechingen . The deanery, together with the deaneries of Hegau , Konstanz , Linzgau and Sigmaringen-Meßkirch, forms the Bodensee / Hohenzollern region of the Archdiocese of Freiburg.

From the original nine pastoral care units, their number decreased to five pastoral care units by January 1, 2015.
