Heidelberg and Weinheim originally had independent deaneries.

Deanship reform

On January 1, 2008, with a reform of the deanery in the Archdiocese of Freiburg, the Heidelberg-Weinheim deanery was established as one of 26 deaneries. The previously independent dean's offices in Heidelberg and Weinheim were merged as part of this reform.

The dean's office together with the dean's offices in Mannheim , Wiesloch and Kraichgau form the Rhine / Neckar region .

Demographic and socio-spatial structure

The Dean's Office Heidelberg-Weinheim has 26 parishes with over 80,000 Catholic Christians. Geographically, the deanery extends along the Baden Bergstrasse from Laudenbach in the north to Heidelberg-Kirchheim in the south.

The pastoral care unit Catholic City Church Heidelberg of the Dean's Office Heidelberg-Weinheim is the largest pastoral care unit in the Archdiocese of Freiburg with around 40,000 Catholics (in the two cities of Heidelberg and Eppelheim).
