St Cyrus ( Gaelic : Eaglais Chiric ), formerly known as Ecclesgreig , is a village on the southern border of the Scottish Council Area Aberdeenshire . It is located on the North Sea coast about seven kilometers northeast of Montrose and about 22 km southwest of Stonehaven . The population of St Cyrus has fluctuated greatly in the past. While around 1500 people lived in St Cyrus in the middle of the 19th century, the number fell continuously to 340 in 1971. Since then, the population has increased again to 1072 inhabitants in 2011.
The areas between St Cyrus and the North Sea, consisting of dunes, grasslands, cliffs and beach, are designated as a nature reserve. These areas are known as tern nesting areas . Salmon is caught in St Cyrus. The salmon migrate south along the coast to reach the North Esk River, a few kilometers to the south .

The A92 trunk road ( Perth –Stonehaven) runs through St Cyrus and connects the village to the road network. A few kilometers west of the proceeds Edinburgh to Fraserburgh leading A90 . St Cyrus was once connected to the rail network through its own train station. However, the route has since been dismantled. The Glasgow – Aberdeen railway and the Edinburgh – Aberdeen railway of the First ScotRail run west past St Cyrus and serve the stations of the nearby towns of Montrose and Laurencekirk .
