The stadium on Bleichstrasse is a football stadium in the Mainz district of Weisenau , Rhineland-Palatinate . Officially, the capacity is given as 8,000 visitors, but a number between 3,000 and 4,000 spectators is more realistic. There is only standing room on all sides on a maximum of five stone steps. The venue is located between residential areas and the Bundesautobahn 60 on the southern edge of Weisenau.

history

Most of the sports grounds on Bleichstrasse were bought in 1925. First a hard court was created. The inauguration was celebrated in August 1926. In September of the following year, the old club house called Die Hütt was completed. In 1941 the playing field was covered with slag . After the Second World War , the considerable damage was repaired and the facility was enlarged. For this purpose, an adjacent arable land was leased. The city of Mainz later bought this and another field. Thus, in 1948, a stadium suitable for the first division was ready for the rise of SG Weisenau to the league , the top division at the time.

In the mid-1950s, additional arable land was leased and later acquired by the city of Mainz on the basis of heritable building rights and made available to the association with the land that has since been purchased. In 1956 a grass pitch required for the league was created. This was inaugurated on September 9th of that year with a game between SpVgg Weisenau and VfL Neuwied  (3: 1). In 1958, a makeshift stand with seats on one of the long sides was added to the venue. At that time, up to 7,000 visitors came to the narrow stadium. There were other plans to expand. In 1965 the old clubhouse was replaced by a new building, which was ready for occupancy in October. A planned seating grandstand for 450 visitors was not built. Since the facility was also used for school sports , the city of Mainz had it extensively renovated in 1966. Two years later, the sports grounds became a district sports facility. In 1976 a tennis facility was built next to the stadium and opened in August of that year. In May 2001 the additional artificial turf field was ready for use. After the temporary stand has been dismantled, the stadium on Bleichstrasse offers around 3000 seats. A back door was renovated in winter 2004/05. The A-Juniors of 1. FSV Mainz 05 played most of their home games of the A-Juniors Bundesliga in 2006/07 on Bleichstrasse.
