The Stadler (H) Gem 2/2 is a two - axle meter - gauge two - power locomotive , which is optionally available as an adhesion locomotive or as a mixed adhesion and cogwheel locomotive . The locomotives in the same basic design were built by Stadler Rail for railways in Switzerland , Spain and Slovakia . The vehicles are used by most railways in construction and snow removal .
history
The first order was placed in August 2012 for five Swiss narrow-gauge railways , the Montreux-Berner Oberland-Bahn (MOB), Transports Montreux-Vevey-Riviera (MVR), Transports Publics du Chablais (TPC), Friborgische Verkehrsbetriebe (TPF) and Chemin de fer Nyon-Saint-Cergue-Morez (NStCM). The locomotives were delivered in 2016/2017. In 2019, four more Gem 2/2 were delivered to Chemins de fer du Jura (CJ) and Appenzeller Bahnen (AB).
technology
All versions of the locomotive have a maximum traction power of 700 kW under the overhead line and 400 kW in diesel mode. The diesel engine is an eight-cylinder Mercedes that complies with Euro IIIB. The vehicles have a regenerative brake , but can also convert the braking energy into heat in braking resistors . The converters from ABB and provide the supply voltage for the three-phase asynchronous motors . The engines come from Traktionssysteme Austria (TSA), who also supply the generator .
The locomotives have many components with the same paths used in people railcar jointly by Stadler. This affects the axle drives , converters , control technology , controls in the driver's cab and the compressed air system.
When deployed in front of construction trains, up to ten people can travel with the locomotive. Additional equipment with searchlights , warning lights and lighting on the side of the vehicle make work easier at night. Electrical tools that are operated with 400 V three-phase alternating current can be supplied with energy via the sockets in the front of the locomotive.
