history

The Wagner organ on the western gallery

Probably in the year 1207 or 1208 there was a first church building in Pritzerbe, a Marienkirche, which was destroyed in later fires. The concrete appearance of the church is not known. It is only known that it had a high altar . Due to the different wall thicknesses, it is assumed that the old St. Mary's Church had a cross shape. A certain Plebanus Balduin is documented as the first pastor. Pritzerbe was repeatedly the residence of the Bishop of Brandenburg during the High Middle Ages . In 1689, after a lightning strike, the entire city including the church was destroyed. The font could be saved from the medieval building.

From 1691 on, the burned down church was replaced by an emergency building, which was rebuilt in 1740. In 1773 there was another fire in the city, which once again completely destroyed the church. It was rebuilt with government support and consecrated in 1783. The church tower was completed three years later. In 1789 the new church received an organ from the master organ builder Joachim Wagner through a gift or purchase , which was previously in the church of the military orphanage in Potsdam . In 1793 new bells were installed in the church tower. Two of these church bells and the organ's front pipes were confiscated during the First World War . In 1938 the church was repaired. The church painter Robert Sandfort made the gallery paintings in 1938, which show the four Gospels in angel and animal symbolism. The Christmas story and the resurrection of Jesus Christ were artistically depicted in the side galleries . In 1980 the church was renovated again. In 2000 the church tower and the tower clock were renewed, and a year later the ceiling and the roof was secured.

Building

The town church is a simple baroque plastered building with a narrow square west tower with a pyramid tip. The windows in the ship are unadorned arched or lattice windows. Five such windows were incorporated on the north and south sides. On the north side there is a portal immediately under the third window. The plastered outer walls are warped between the windows and towards the corners with pilaster strips in the ashlar plaster . The roof of the nave has a gable on the west side that is partially covered by the church tower , while on the east it was worked as a hipped roof. There are two bat dormers as window openings on the north and south sides . The east side of the church has no windows. The only noticeable features are a double-door segmental arched portal and corner pilasters .

In the tower there is a tower clock with a round dial. Segment-arched sound openings for the bells have been incorporated below the church tower clock. Rectangular portals are located on the south and north sides of the tower. Above these there are segmented arched windows with muntins. On the north side, two small rectangular windows for the ascent were incorporated directly under the sound opening. There is also a very small segmented arched window on each side below the church clock, slightly to the right or left of the center line. Above the clock faces of the tower clock there are window canopies as decorations and the corners of the tower are also set off with pilaster strips in the upper half. The tower spire initially converges flat in a tetragonal cross-section, then after a sharp break in an octagonal cross-section. At the top there is a tower ball and a wind vane . After several modifications and restorations, the valuable baroque organ now has 14 stops on a manual and pedal .

Churchyard

Polish soldier's grave

The eastern part of the churchyard of the Pritzerbes town church is still used today as a church cemetery . On it are a mourning hall and a war memorial for the fallen soldiers in the First and Second World Wars. On the north side of the church there is a separately listed old tomb of a Polish soldier.
