The parish church of St. Achaz is a Roman Catholic parish church in Schladming in Styria .

History and design

The church stands in the city center and is surrounded by a cemetery with the Anna chapel to the northeast .

A first consecration of a church is one of the first documented mention of Schladming, the place was in 1299 the vicariate (Catholic) branch of the neighboring community in Haus . In the 16th century, unlike in Haus, there was a split in faith in Schladming. An independent Catholic parish was only established in Schladming in 1857.

The core of the parish church is late Gothic and was given its current form as a three-aisled , five-bay hall church through extensive renovations between 1522 and 1532 . The tower has been wearing an onion helmet since 1832 , which was faithfully restored after the fire in 1937.

The high altar comes from Peter Hafner from Radstadt and Martin Neuberg from Admont from the years 1702 to 1704. The middle picture of the high altar shows St. Achatius and is surrounded by figures of the apostles Peter and Paul as well as the evangelists John and John the Baptist .

The side altar on the left shows St. Luke and the Coronation of Mary , the side altar on the right is a rosary altar .

Various other figures are placed in the church, including a figure of St. Sebastian on one of the ceiling pillars and a Madonna figure. The fields of the parapet of the gallery are painted with figures of saints.
