Stanislav Batishchev ( Ukrainian Станіслав Батіщев ; Russian Станислав Батищев ; * July 10, 1940 - May 22, 2011 ) was a Soviet weightlifter .

Career

The 1.84 m tall Ukrainian Stanislaw Batishchev started first for "Burewestnik" Krivoy Rog and then for "Avangard" Donetsk . From 1965 to 1973 he was one of the best super heavyweight lifters (at that time over 110 kg body weight) in the world, although he could never become Olympic, world or European champions in all-around competitions. His bad luck was that in the years when he achieved his top performances, there were two athletes in the Soviet Union , Leonid Shabotinsky and Vasily Alexejew , who performed even better than him. In all major championships he lost to one of the two. He was also on the lifting platform against the German Rudolf Mang several times, won against him at the European Championships in Sofia in 1971 and in Madrid in 1973 , but lost to him at the 1973 World Cup in Havana .

In 1969 Batishchev was both world and European champions in the individual tear. In 1972 he achieved the outstanding performance of 620 kg in the Olympic triathlon at the Soviet championships as second behind Alexejew, but was still not nominated for the 1972 Olympic Games.
