Staro Selo is a common Slavic name for villages.

Word origin

Selo means ' village ' in the West Slavic languages that are common on the Balkan Peninsula (Serbo-Croatian, Bulgarian, Macedonian), staro 'old', the Latin equivalent of antiqua villa .

The equivalent German name ' Altdorf ', 'Altes Dorf' can be found in Germany as Altes Dorf (Hildesheim) .

The opposite of Staro Selo is Novo Selo ('New Village').
