Starpilots is an indie rock band from Vienna , Austria . It was formed in 2001 by three members of the band Scapegoat Delu: xxe, who add spherical synthesizer sounds and melodic vocal melodies to the early post-punk sound . Main influences include bands such as Joy Division , Oasis , Radiohead and The Smiths . Since 2012, the Starpilots line-up has expanded to include Florian Fessl (drums) and Werner Rammer (guitar) to five members. At the end of 2014 the EP Everything Will Be Good Soon was released, which can be downloaded for free from the band's website. It is part 1 of a planned EP series that will appear successively in 2014/2015.

The beginnings: Scapegoat
In 1993 Johannes Prem (guitar) and Thomas Schauppenlehner (bass, vocals) founded the post-punk group Scapegoat in Waidhofen / Ybbs. A Yamaha drum computer was used as the striking mechanism. The sound was characterized by dark chords and a brutal mechanical beat. Horst Rüger (2nd guitar) and Gernot Grassl (lead vocals) joined them in 1994 , the first recordings were released, they played live at the Seewiesenfest 1994 with Play the Tracks of and HP Zinker , in 1998 at the Urlriver Festival with Sportfreunde Stiller and at Danube Island Festival .
Scapegoat Delu: xxe
Due to the new digital possibilities in the mid-1990s, more and more electronic sounds were added to the analog post-punk sound, which in 1998 was the reason to expand the band name to Scapegoat Delu: xxe. The experimental indie pop concept album Stories from the Research Labs (PAM Records / edel) was released under this name in 1999 with the singles Planet B (video director: Karl Pridun) and Credit Card Superstar (video director: Paul Poet). Thanks to distribution partnerships with international labels, the album is curiously only available on the open market from Amazon Japan.
Star pilots
Founding member Johannes Prem left in 2001, the rest of them re-formed themselves as star pilots in terms of sound: indie pop with strong electronic influences. The single Ambulance 13 became part of the soundtrack of the feature film Ikarus (D: Bernhard Weihrather, P: Allegro Film ) and was remixed by the electronics team EPY and the bigbeat formation Jellybeat . Appearances with Sebastian Brauneis and Wolfgang Kopper in the music programs Studio 3000 and focus: General information on the free TV station TIV will follow. The album Population ( Hoanzl ) marked the temporary high point of the artistic collaboration: Starpilots songs appeared on several samplers in Austria and Germany (VW-soundfoundation, pittiplatsch3000, The Gap), Invade Me, Invader , Gasping for Air and Heat received frequent airplay FM4 , the videos of the latter two songs were shown on gotv music video station ; Live concerts with bands like Echophonic , Jellybeat or Roman Fischer . The song Gold was part of a video projection in the Austria pavilion at EXPO Shanghai 2010. Population is still available today on iTunes .
