Stathmopoda auriferella is a butterfly from the family of Stathmopodidae .

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 9 to 13 millimeters. The head and forehead ( frons ) have a yellowish white shine, the vertex is ocher-colored. The antennae are yellowish white and sometimes have indistinct ocher colored rings. Thorax and tegulae are ocher colored. There is a broad, brown longitudinal line dorsally on the thorax . The forewings are ocher in color and have a shiny, yellowish-white line at the base of the inner edge of the wing. A small, dark brown Kostal spot is located near the base of the wing, followed by a thin brown line on the wing leading edge and the Kostal fold. In front of the middle of the wing there is a wide, dark brown, slightly inwardly curved band that narrows medially . The subapical area is ocher brown and darker towards the inner wing edge. The fringed scales are ocher-colored brown on the costal edge and ocher-colored on the inner wing edge. The hind wings shine yellowish white, they are yellowish gray on the wing inner edge and on the wing tip.

distribution

Stathmopoda auriferella is widespread in the Orientalis and Afrotropis . In the Palearctic , the species is only found in regions with subtropical climates such as the Middle East and the Far East of Russia .

biology

The caterpillars live in silky webs on various types of rotting plant material. The caterpillars were also found on living flowers, seeds, and shoots of plants that had been injured by other invertebrates . The species is a pest of little importance in various crops. These include kiwi ( Actinidia sinensis ), mango ( Mangifera ), oranges and sorghum ( sorghum ). The moths fly from June to December, probably two or three generations are formed.
