The Stavangerfjord is a ferry of the Norwegian shipping company Fjord Line that was put into service in 2013 and operates under the Danish flag . It is used on the route from Hirtshals to Stavanger , Bergen and Langesund . The Stavangerfjord was with putting the world's first with LNG -powered cruise ferry.

history

The Stavangerfjord was ordered on March 16, 2010 and was launched on March 15, 2013 under hull number 87 at the Gdansk shipyard . While the equipment was still being carried out, Fjord Line decided to convert the ship from a conventional diesel drive to a drive with liquefied natural gas. This delayed completion by several months. The delivery to the shipping company finally took place on July 6, 2013. On July 14, the Stavangerfjord began ferry operations from Hirtshals via Stavanger to Bergen and Langesund.

In October 2013 the ship arrived in Rissa for renovation work in Fosen Yards . Among other things, a new restaurant was added there. On December 14th, it resumed ferry service. In addition to the usual ferry service, the Stavangerfjord has been used for so-called New Year cruises on New Year's Eve since 2016 .

In 2018, the Stavangerfjord received 60 additional cabins as part of a € 7.9 million renovation. In addition, a heated winter garden with 125 seats was created in the stern area, which is adjacent to the ship's buffet restaurant.

Sister ship

The younger sister of Stavangerfjord is the 2,014 in service Bergensfjord . It is also powered by liquefied natural gas.
