Ste-Marie-Madeleine church

The Roman Catholic Church of Ste-Marie-Madeleine in Le Bellay-en-Vexin , a French commune in the Val-d'Oise department of the Île-de-France region , was built from the 12th century. The church has been a protected architectural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1965 .

architecture

The single-nave church is oriented from west to north. It has a four-bay nave , a transept with a crossing tower and a choir with a straight end. A chapel was added to the north-east of the choir in the 16th century. The bell tower was renewed in the 14th century. It has high, domed arched windows on all sides and buttresses at its corners . The windows have archivolts resting on pillars with capitals . Above the simple portal with archivolts that end in the masonry, there is a high arched window, which is surrounded by a flattened band. The Romanesque capitals inside the church are remarkable.

Furnishing

The church has an altarpiece from the 18th century and a painting by Charles Alphonse Dufresnoy (1611–1668) depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds.
