Steeler is a former American heavy metal - band , published in 1983 their only album. The best known members were the guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen and the metal singer Ron Keel (founder of Keel ). The band name "Steeler" referred to a song by Judas Priest .

history

Steeler was founded in Nashville , Tennessee in the early 1980s by singer Ron Keel and released a self-financed single called Cold Day In Hell in 1982 . The band aroused the interest of Brian Slagel , who then put the song on his first Metal Massacre compilation. The band then moved to Los Angeles and was signed by Mike Varney 's Shrapnel Records label . At that time, Steeler consisted of guitarist Michael Dunigan, bassist Tim Morrison and drummer Bobby Eva alongside Keel.

Varney helped reorganize the line-up and made contact with the Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, who replaced Dunigan from then on. Steeler's rhythm section has also been replaced. So for bassist Morrison came the former WASP bassist Rik Fox and for drummer Bobby Eva came Mark Edwards. Mike Varney produced her self-titled debut album, which was released in 1983 and received quite a bit of attention in the rock scene worldwide. Nevertheless, Malmsteen left the band in the direction of Alcatrazz , which in turn resulted in the exit of Fox and Edwards.

Keel briefly hired Mitch Perry (guitar), Greg Chaisson (bass) and Bobby Marks (drums) before finally breaking up the band. Yngwie Malmsteen became one of the most influential and well-known so-called guitar heroes of the 1980s, while Ron Keel and his band Keel released some highly acclaimed albums.
