Brutus is a death metal band from the Netherlands , which was founded in 2000.
history
The band was founded in September 2000 by the guitarist and singer Bastærd and the drummer Maarten "Ploegbaas" Luijsterburg. A short time later, the bassist and singer Molestrator and the guitarist and singer Schoft joined and completed the line-up. After a few rehearsals, Molestator left the band and was replaced by Ploert. This was followed by the first appearances before the band recorded their first demo at Christmas 2001, which consisted of six songs. This was followed by further appearances, with the band also serving as the opening act for Disgorge . The group then signed a deal with Unique Leader Records and went to Excess Studios in December to record their first album Slachtbeest . After some delays, the phonogram was released in December 2003. The release was followed by a European tour with Macabre and Cephalic Carnage . Shortly thereafter, Bastærd left the band after a few more appearances and was replaced by the guitarist Vlerk. Another three-week European tour followed in September 2005 with Mortal Decay and Beheaded . The band also played some local appearances as opening act for bands like Nile , Vader and Suffocation . Then the band began to record their second album Murwgebeukt / TotalLoss . The recordings could not be finished, however, because the 25-year-old drummer Luijsterburg committed suicide on October 24, 2006 by throwing himself in front of a train. The first appearance after that followed in 2008 at the Neurotic Deathfest. Here Yuma Van Eekelen was represented as the new drummer, while Bastærd had returned to the band. In 2010 the band performed at the Wacken Open Air .
style
The band played classic American- style death metal on their album Slachtbeest . The speed of the songs is almost consistently high, while the vocals are deep and guttural . The texts have been written in the Dutch language .
