Stefan Eminger

Stefan Eminger (born 1967 in Vienna ) is an Austrian historian and contemporary historian . In particular, he works on the crimes of the Nazi regime in what was then Reichsgau Niederdonau .

life and work

Eminger studied - after two semesters of law - history and German philology at the University of Vienna . In 1995 he completed his master’s degree with a thesis on trade policy and commercial organizations in Austria at the time of the global economic crisis . phil. with a thesis on organizational forms, interest politics and political mobility of trade in Austria from 1930 to 1938 . From 1996 to 2000 he was involved in two research projects by Karl Haas , which were made possible by the anniversary fund of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank . From 2001 to 2005 he worked as a lecturer at the Institute for Contemporary History at the University of Vienna, at the same time he was a research assistant at the Lower Austrian State Archives in St. Pölten. Since then, his main areas of work have included forced labor in the Nazi regime, the so-called Aryanizations and provisions in the historic Reichsgau Niederdonau . Since 2005 Eminger has been head of the department for the contemporary history holdings of the State Archives.

Together with his colleague Ernst Langthaler, he published the paperback Lower Austria. From the First World War to the Present , published by Haymon in 2012. Also together with Langthaler - as well as Oliver Kühschelm and Peter Melichar - he acted as editor of the three-volume History of Lower Austria in the 20th Century, which was published in 2008 by Böhlau. Eminger is also a curator of regional and state historical exhibitions on the 20th century and is active in teacher training.
